The look from my reels, as one LUT.

I graded one of my reels by hand, then measured that grade and baked it into a single LUT for Sony S-Log3. Expose your clip well, add TCINE, and it comes out looking like my videos.

Built for Sony S-Log3. Loads in DaVinci Resolve, Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro, CapCut, and any other app that takes a .cube file.

Before and after

What it does

  1. A real grade, matched. I put a reel I graded by hand next to the flat S-Log3 clips it came from and matched them frame by frame. On shots it had never seen, it comes out almost identical to my grade.
  2. One node. It converts S-Log3 and adds the look in the same step, so you don't need a conversion LUT before it.
  3. Contrast built in. I set the contrast so a well exposed clip looks finished with nothing on top.
  4. Soft highlights. Skies and lamps roll off gently instead of clipping to flat white.
  5. Tested on other footage. I ran it on 10 shots it wasn't built from. 6 looked right as they were, and 4 needed a small exposure or contrast nudge first.

In the download

  1. TCINE for Sony S-Log3: a 65-point cube, a 33-point cube for apps that need it, and a backup cube for clips that were converted before grading.
  2. TCINE for iPhone: Apple Log and normal video versions of the same grade.
  3. Install steps for Resolve, Premiere, Final Cut and CapCut, on the page you get after buying.

Note from me

A LUT won't save a badly exposed shot. Get exposure and white balance right first, then add TCINE. If it feels strong on a clip, pull the mix down a little. I made it for my own videos first.

Questions

Which file do I use?

Sony S-Log3: start with TCINE_SLog3_to_Rec709_65.cube. If your app won't load it, use the 33 one. iPhone: open the iPhone zip. Folder 1 is for Log clips, folder 2 is for normal clips.

My clip looks crushed or washed out with the LUT

The file was probably converted before grading. Use TCINE_SLog3_to_Rec709_33_VideoLevels.cube instead. If it still looks wrong, fix exposure first.

Is my iPhone clip Log or normal?

If you turned on Log in the Camera app, or recorded Log in an app like Blackmagic Camera, it's Log. It looks flat and washed out straight off the phone. Anything else is normal.

Which editing apps does it work in?

Any app that loads .cube LUTs: DaVinci Resolve, Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro, CapCut desktop and most others. No plugin. The steps for each app are on the page you get after buying.

Will it work on my Sony camera?

I built it on a Sony A7C II shooting S-Log3. Other Sony bodies recording S-Log3 should land very close, but the A7C II is the only one I've tested.

Does it work on Android?

I haven't tuned or tested it on Android footage, so I can't promise how it looks there.

What happens after I buy?

Both downloads open in your free Eden account right away. You keep them, and when I update the look, your copy updates too.
